Genesis 21-24:67
Ok, Ok, Ok this is some of the hardest stuff that we can ever see in having faith in God. Abraham is told to do the unthinkable. Something that as a dad is not even imaginable. But lets face it, if we had to lay down our life for our kids, our wife, we would do it.
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,” Eph 5:25
Abraham’s faith is tested and God has told him to take his son Isaac to the top of a mountain to sacrifice him. What the heck? Pretty sure deep down in Abraham’s mind he was like “I have waited and waited for this son and now you want me to go and sacrifice him, Lord are you sure you know what you are doing? But you have told me my descendants will be as many as stars in the sky.” But Abraham is rock solid and he does Exactly what the Lord has told him to do.
Can you imagine the tone of this conversation?
“ Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”
“God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.” Genesis 22:7-8 NLT
Isaac is shown what true faith looks like by his father. Do you show your faith to your kids? Your wife? Those around you? As men we pretend to have everything together, we have everything under control. Is this how we show true faith? Give it up, stop the facade.
No one can comprehend what Abraham was called to do. We can’t fathom the thought of sacrificing one of our kids. But this is not the point of the scripture, Faith is the point. In all circumstances we are to trust the Lord.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
What has the Lord done in your life that would cause you to have unquestionable trust in him? In what area of your life do you not have trust in the Lord?
