Genesis 30:25-31:55
We all have a past, we are a walking testimony of what God has done in our lives. While God was waiting for us to choose him most of us had done things that we are not proud of, things that would make others kringe. Sometimes we do things even when we are walking with the Lord that we are not proud of. As we see in this section of scripture Jacob is working for his father in law(Leban) and he is ultra successful. He is producing herds and herds of sheep and goats. But Jacob is under Leban and his authority, Leban has changed his payment terms with Jacob a handful of times while he is trying to obtain Rachel as a wife. Jacob is ready to leave and go back to his father and land. Jacob devises a plan to leave and to leave wealthy.
Jacob devises a plan to go out into the flocks of sheep and goats and pull out all of the spotted and speckled and striped, leaving the others for Leban. Leban deceived Jacob once again and top the field before Jacob does and pulls out all the spotted, speckled and striped. Jacob devises a plan to have pieces of bark near the watering trough because that is where they mated. The pieces of bark near them would cause them to produce spotted, speckled and striped off spring.
This plan is definitely not about the short term, this plan took years and years. This went on for six years and Jacobs wealth has drastically increased while Lebans has decreased. God is not about the short term in our lives, he is looking at the end game when we are in heaven sitting next to him. He has a purpose for our lives whether we know it or not he is guiding our paths we need to be open to what he has instore for us.
“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation;for you I wait all the day long.” Psalm 25:4-5
