Day 12

Genesis 32:1-35:27

Have you ever wrestled with someone? Maybe you had a little brother and at some point in your childhood you guys got mad at eachother and started wrestling. Maybe before you became a christian you got into bar fights and wrestled with men over knocking your beer over, or maybe just maybe you were a wrestler in High School and enjoyed the spirit of finding out who was the strongest at the match.

Could you imagine wrestling physically with God? I know that we have all wrestled in our heads over things. We have worried over things that are not important. We have wrestled over decisions that need to or needed to be made.

What does that tell us about our faith? If I have faith in God should I have these mental wrestling matches? Should I spend countless sleepless nights wrestling over work issues?

I can not imagine physically wrestling God. It would be awesome in one way, to actually feel his physical presence pressed up to you. Pretty sure he could pin me in less than 2.5 seconds. In one way his presence might just be too much for me and I would pass out. Regardless he would win, he always wins, from the start to the finish he will win.

So, Jacob remains the only person to physically wrestle with God. God came to him when he was alone, he was isolated. God met him where he was, Jacob didn’t pursue a wrestling match with God, at this time it was probably the farthest thing from his mind, he was way too concerned with meeting Esau. At this point Jacob has overlooked the promises that God has made with him, and has been going off of his own game plan, get wives, have kids, get rich whether it was the right way or the wrong way. God meeting him where he is is God saying “Hey you remember what I promised you Dad? You remember what I promised you? When are you going to get back on track and follow my lead, my way? When are you going to repent?”
