Day 13

Genesis 36:1-19,20-30, 1 Chronicles 1:35-37

Whilst today is a short read, and would be the start of many days of genealogy records. There are some items of importance.

It’s interesting that the writer of Genesis and 1 Chronicles tells the genealogy of Esau first…. Esau’s descendants actually have a few other firsts as well. Esau’s descendants are the first to have kings. Why is that? I would venture to guess that while Esau and his descendants were focused on worldly possession, and Idols and false Gods that they had disruptions, fighting, corruption,  within their communities. So they needed to have kings. This is not the case with Israel’s(Jacob) genealogy line. There were 8 kings from Esau descendants. They needed an earthly king to keep everything in order. We see some names in the list of descendants that will come up later and will be strong characters, strong leaders..  Notable  descendants would be the Edomites.

Not once in this part of scripture or in the lineage of Esau is God ever mentioned, Prayer is obsolete. These generations live solely for themselves.

Today’s scripture finishes with a list of the 12 sons of Israel (Jacob).
