Day 14

Genesis 37:1-39:23, 1 Chronicles 2:3-6,8

We all love a great underdog story. The odds are stacked against some team or some person facing something that is much bigger, faster, stronger than they are. It makes for a great story especially if they win in the end. Most days are underdog stories for Christians. We are facing constant kick back from society telling us that we are wrong, we need to forget our values, our beliefs, our standards and we need to fall in line just like everyone else. We need to start pleasing ourselves, we deserve anything and everything we want.

In today’s reading Joseph’s underdog story begins. Joseph is the youngest out of 12 brothers. He is his dads favorite and he treats him differently than all the other brothers. Which in turn causes animosity, and division between Joseph and his brothers. They despise him, one day the brothers were out in a field with the fathers flock and they saw Joseph walking towards them off in the distance. They have enough time to devise a plan to kill him. Long story short, they don’t kill him, they end up selling him to some traders heading to Egypt.  Joseph eventually ends up in Potiphar’s house. We don’t get much of Joseph and his walk with the Lord but he becomes very successful and blessed in everything he does. Providence. There is a much bigger story happening than we can see in this chapter.

With success comes outsiders wanting what you have, wanting to take you down, and will do whatever they can to do it. Potiphar’s wife sees Joseph’s success, his good looks and strong stature, and decides she wants him. Joseph eventually finds his way into prison out of her wrong doing. The Lord continues to bless him.

But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison..”  Genesis 39:21
