Day 22

Job 12:1-14:22

Have you ever heard the saying, “you know who your friends are when you are moving!” Friends show up when you need them, friends show up in good times and bad times. I have done a lot of moving in my adult life, short local moves, long distance moves, you name it and I have done it. I can count on one hand how many times someone has helped me move. Always being a transplant living more of a nomadic lifestyle makes it hard to find friends that will help you move. In modern culture we don’t want to ask for help, our idea of asking is finding someone that we can pay so we don’t have to ask and put ourselves out there vulnerably and admit that you need help.

This really applies to all circumstances in life, we don’t want others to think that we are vulnerable so we don’t ask for help. We don’t want others to think that we are weak. We want to have a facade of being strong and mighty, smart and wise. Job’s friends continue to be present physically but they are absent emotionally. They are reading and hearing the wrong story, they are miss guiding Job in their thoughts, it’s almost as if they are provoking him to curse God. to get to the point where Job throws his hands up and says forget it I am done. Job has a one liner that is priceless..

“But this is what will save me—I am not godless. If I were, I could not stand before him.” Job 13:16

The book of Job should be an inspiration. An inspiration to Live a life filled with God to leave our godless pasts and turn to him, to remember that we may be under trial, we may be walking through tough times. But God always has our back; he doesn’t punish us for sins that we have committed! Satan is the one that we should fear. He is the one that is always looking for an entry point into our lives.

“ Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

Pick your friends wisely. Pick friends that understand you. Pick friends that read the bible with you. Pick friends that will be with you and never say a word. Pick friends that walk in the way of the Lord.
