Job 15:1-18:21
What do we need most when we are suffering? What would be the best comfort that we could find? Is it in material goods? Is it in people? Is it in finding solitude? Job thought that he would find comfort in friends hoping that they would comfort him and understand his situation and suffering.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
We are to find comfort in the Lord and in nothing else. If we have walked in a valley and the Lord has blessed us to come out of that valley we are now trained to help others walk through a similar valley.
Does that mean we offer endless advice?
Does that mean we tell them all about our valley?
No! We are to sit with them, we are not to compare valleys and struggles; they are all different. God created us all differently and in his image this doesn’t mean that our valley’s are the same, they may be similar but not the same. What is the common thread?
God, we must go to scripture, we must go to him.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need..” Hebrews 4:16
